Frequently Asked Questions
We get asked these questions a lot.
- Where does the name come from?
In the early days of the first build a call of ‘Coffee Break’ resulted in four heads popping up out of hatches just like African Meerkats! The name was born!
- How long will it take for my vessel to be built?
Depending on the size and specification, anywhere from 3 months for a 14m to 5 months for an 18m. Larger bespoke projects will take a little longer!
- Are you associated with any charities?
Yes. We regularly give to charities including MacMillan, Home for Good and Compassion. Find out more here.
- Are the vessels customisable?
Yes, in fact no two Meercats are the same. We work with our clients to design the exact deck layout and decide on equipment options that work best for them.
- Is Meercat Workboats part of a bigger group?
Yes, we are part of the Burgess Group, which includes Burgess Marine, the UK’s largest independent ship repair from Royal Navy warships to commercial ferries and super-yachts.
- Do you build other types of vessels?
Yes, although we concentrate on our Meercats, we can build many other types of vessel in either steel or aluminium.
