The Meercat new build team has started work on Guernsey Harbours’ new Meercat MRV15 workboat, following the confirmation of the order in February when Meercat Boats won the highly coveted tender, valued at over £1 million.
Five days into the build and the steel hull is already taking shape. The new 15 metre workboat is being customised to precisely suit its harbour and support duties in the demanding sea conditions of the Channel Islands, more specifically the island of Guernsey.
Guernsey Harbours manage over 1800 local berths and moorings in its jurisdiction, making it the largest marina facility in the British Isles. Guernsey is also one of Europe’s largest tender ports for cruise ships, plus operates and maintains more than 60 crucial navigational aids including buoys and beacons. The new MRV15 was chosen for its versatility and robust nature, enabling it to service the ports and harbours requirements spanning all Guernsey Harbours’ key areas of operation.
