The team at Meercat Workboats laid down the keel on their latest designed 15m Workboat for Associated British Ports, Southampton, with the Harbour Master, Martin Phipps welding the first plate.

The latest design incorporates an increased moulded depth, providing close to 30 tonnes cargo capacity. Scantlings have been reviewed to provide an increased deck strength and a newly designed wheelhouse provides improved field of vision from the helm.

Southampton Harbour Master, Martin Phipps, said:

Laying the keel is a significant milestone and I was delighted to be so involved.

It’s really important to us that a local company based in Hythe is building our workboat and when she comes into service, this vessel will play an important role keeping the Port of Southampton open and safe for all our maritime users.

Did you know: The Meercat range of vessels are not just road transportable but can be built up to 24metres in length in our new facilities in Hythe, including our new range of landing craft and houseboats.
